Paint Process Engineer
Job Description and Responsibilities
This is a hands-on shop floor, technical position responsible for the engineering of robotically spray painted interior automotive plastic trim components with 1K, 2K, water base, and solvent base paints. Knowledge of soft touch paints, high gloss base clear, including monocoat piano blacks, and a variety of part pretreatment processes is required.
Engineering bachelor degree
Ability to communicate in english and spanish oral and written
Able to travel overseas
3-4 years of experience in similiar position and industry
Able to be relocated to Zacatecas ASAP
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Under administrative direction and general supervision in responsible to:
Develop efficient robotic paint processes utilizing multiple robots in both dry filter and water fall paint booths that meet customer specifications for film build and appearance and minimize paint usage, cycle time, and scrap.
Assist with quoting new parts - paint usage, cycle times, part racking, and labor.
Manage paint rack development and timing for new parts – develop rack concept, quote, award, prototype, production rack build, and bring into production on time and under budget
Maintain and troubleshoot booth air flow balance and other paint booth issues
Maintain and troubleshoot paint delivery system issues.
Maintain and troubleshoot robot issues
Work with the maintenance and production departments to maintain equipment and to develop and improve preventative maintenance protocols for the paint booth, paint robots, paint delivery system and paint racks.
Work with the paint department manager to coordinate the activities of the paint supervisor, paint technicians, and operators
Assist the paint department manager in developing standards and ensuring compliance to standards in the paint department this includes standardized work for operators (ex. part cleaning, quality checks) and standardized work for paint techs (ex. viscosity checks, fluid flow checks),
Assist in training paint techs, operators, maintenance techs
Work to improve part quality, operational availability, and throughput using practical problem solving and kaizen methodology
Interface with paint suppliers and paint equipment and supplies suppliers to ensure proper quality, cost, and service are provided
Ensure safety and environmental procedures and protocols are followed
Participate in cross company paint improvement activities with paint engineers from all Summit plants
Lead capital system project upgrades of paint capability to meet customer requirements – assist in developing a budget, getting quotes, sourcing equipment, installing equipment, and starting up new equipment and processes – on time and under budget.
